King County Lands Invasive Plants Survey

King County, Washington

King County undertook a comprehensive inventory of invasive plant species on 21,000 acres of County conservation land. Our GIS group managed the GPS field and database development/management involving delineating the conservation lands into seven distinct habitat cover types using traditional air photo interpretation methods with 1-foot spatial resolution aerial photography. Field data was linked with a GIS Access database allowing spatial and tabular queries on invasive species regarding their distribution and frequency within a given area, cover type, and/or elevation gradient. This habitat-based assessment tool will be used to analyze, monitor, and manage invasive species at different spatial scales.
