Invasive Plant Survey
King County, Washington
King County staff needed to perform queries on invasive plant species to help determine the value of County conservation land. ESA provided the King County Noxious Weed Control Program (KCNWCP) with an inventory of invasive plant species on King County lands. The inventory information will assist with understanding the level and trends of invasive species infestation, management, and control. The inventory focused primarily on invasive species not monitored by KCNWCP, but common, unregulated weeds that impact environmental and other values.
ESA conducted an inventory of approximately 21,000 acres and provided the KCNWCP with a database of invasive plant species observed within all habitat cover types for each site visited. This data was imported to GIS to allow King County staff to perform queries on invasive species. Sample queries include: distribution of particular species and most prevalent invasive species per habitat type, among many others.
