ESA's skilled environmental planners and scientists work on-call under master contracts to help Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) expedite its projects. The LAUSD serves more than one million southern California students.

To support a $2.8 billion New Facilities Master Plan, ESA prepared an environmental impact report (EIR) for the Central Los Angeles Area New Learning Center #1 of the Robert F. Kennedy Community of Schools. The 23.5-acre project site was occupied by the vacant Ambassador Hotel, which operated from 1919-1989, and consisted of associated hotel structures, parking lots, and lawn areas. Additional site vacancies included three apartment buildings, an abandoned commercial structure, and a Budget Rental Car office. LAUSD considered five project development options, four that would develop K-12 facilities and one that would develop a middle and high school along with a commercial development on site. Proposed development options ranged from preservation of the Ambassador Hotel to its complete removal from the site. Environmental issues analyzed in the EIR include aesthetics, cultural resources, land use, noise, air quality, traffic, and hazards.

ESA's sound science and pragmatic solutions are on call for LAUSD. With a team of experts in all technical areas pertinent to the District's needs, we work efficiently and effectively to assess projects for environmental compliance and documentation.
