Hillsboro Airport Addressing Community Noise Concerns

Hillsboro Airport's master planning process abruptly came to a halt as stakeholders voiced numerous concerns and questions about aircraft noise. With community support in this Portland, Oregon, suburb critical to the planning process, the airport asked ESA to assist in resolving these concerns before continuing.

ESA prepared an "Airport Noise 101" presentation to educate Hillsboro Airport users and the surrounding community. Aircraft noise regulations and steps for minimizing aircraft (specifically, helicopter) noise exposure were the focus. It was such a success that our team presented during community and planning committee meetings. To further reduce concerns, ESA performed a third-party review of the noise modeling work completed to date, including the Port of Portland's measured aircraft noise levels.

Community concerns about aircraft noise levels at the airport were resolved and the master plan update resumed. ESA completed all tasks on time and under budget.
