Marc von Canal Joins ESA’s Biological Resources Group

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is pleased to announce that Marc von Canal has joined the firm as a Senior Scientist in the Biological Resources and Land Management Group. Marc will work with clients to provide solutions for ecological enhancement and restoration projects, environmental studies, on-site and off-site mitigation, including mitigation banking, environmental compliance, permitting, and special status species from ESA’s Orlando office.

“Marc brings 17 years of hands-on experience regulating water resources throughout Florida. His extensive knowledge and proven success expediting projects through Florida’s Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP), state and federal wetland delineation process, and Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) will help us advance the sustainable and equitable management of Florida’s ecosystems,” says Julie Sullivan, ESA’s Southeast Regional Director.

Marc has successfully coordinated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency on federal mitigation bank review and compliance. His experience spans project planning and design, stakeholder engagement, NEPA support, and GIS/cartography.

Marc holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science from Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Tulane University in New Orleans.. Prior to joining ESA he worked for the St. Johns River Water Management District advancing their mitigation banking program including providing technical assistance to improve statewide consistency in the application of the UMAM rule. He also worked for the District as a Senior Regulatory Scientist in the Environmental Resource Permit Program reviewing projects for compliance and managing the DEP-delegated Sovereign Submerged Lands Program.
