ESA Names Two Vice Presidents - Annette Bonilla and Jean Chen


Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a leading California environmental consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Annette Bonilla, Director of Human Resources and Operations and Jean Chen, Corporate Controller, have been named ESA Vice Presidents.

Annette Bonilla celebrated 25 years with ESA in 2011, and has consistently been involved in the firm’s human resources and operations in various capacities over the years. She assisted in the firm’s growth from 1 office in San Francisco to our current 14 and a staff of 65 to our present count of 350. In the past year alone she led the opening of the firm’s Orlando, FL and Santa Cruz, CA offices, the relocation of the firm’s Tampa, FL office, and the expansion of offices in Sacramento and Oakland, CA and oversaw the hiring and orientation of more than 85 staff.

“Annette began her career at ESA,” said Gary Oates, President, “her contributions to ESA have grown with her professional growth and development. Over the years she has touched virtually all aspects of corporate operations and personnel management at the Company, advanced her education, and assumed an increasingly valuable leadership role in corporate operations.”

Jean Chen has been ESA’s controller for the past nine years as the company more than doubled in net revenue from $16.2 million in 2003 to an estimated $40 million in 2011. She brings more than 20 years of financial and project cost accounting experience and oversees all accounting activities, including financial statements, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, pension, tax filings, fixed assets and audits. Jean has successfully led several system conversions and integrations as the company continues to grow. She is responsible for providing financial guidance and training for all ESA staff. She works directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in developing and presenting financial information to the company’s Directors.
