Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a leading environmental consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Alexa Washburn has joined our Los Angeles office as a Principal Managing Associate. As part of ESA’s growing community planning and policy team, Alexa will provide large-scale project management and community planning services throughout California.

As a private consultant and as a public agency program manager, Alexa has managed, prepared and implemented a variety of urban planning and design projects including general, community/area, master, revitalization, downtown, and specific plans; corridor studies, housing elements, development entitlements, and sustainability strategies throughout California. Her projects have been recognized with seven awards from the American Planning Association and Southern California Association of Governments. Alexa strategically broadens the community planning expertise we provide to our clients by actively shaping the future of our communities for the better. Her award-winning Station Square Transit Village Specific Plan proposed an innovative transit-oriented mixed-use development integrating the future expansion of the Metro Gold Line with uses ranging from retail shops and restaurants, to office space and upscale multifamily housing. This pioneering project was an opportunity to revitalize an underutilized area, and connect the City of Monrovia into a regional light rail network.

“Alexa’s leadership, public facilitation skills, attention to detail, and extensive California community planning experience are an exciting addition for our team,” said Deanna Hansen, Director of ESA’s Southern California Community Development Group. “With direct experience working for Southern California planning agencies behind the counter and a successful career on the private consulting side, Alexa’s unique perspective advances our ability to truly partner and collaborate with our clients.”

An active member of the American Planning Association, Alexa has been on the Board of Directors for the APA Orange County Section since 2009; and is currently on the Association of California Cities Orange County Division’s Board of Directors. Alexa holds a Master of Arts in public policy and administration, as well as Bachelor of Arts in geography and urban studies from the California State University at Long Beach.
